How To Drop Excess Weight Safely Through Natural Means

By Joseph Marilldey

There are many fad diets and weight loss programs out there that claim you can lose weight quickly. Although they can truly make you shed weight in a few weeks, they usually have plenty of side effects such as electrolyte imbalances which can be fatal. A number of them are also too restrictive, which makes them difficult to sustain. Those who use these "quick weight reduction" methods are also at higher risk of suffering from yo-yoing weight, which can further dissuade you from carrying on with your weight loss attempts. If you're looking for ways to get rid of excess pounds naturally, read on.

Tips for Weight Loss

Reduce your calorie consumption and exercise more. Diet and exercise will still remain as the most recommended way of losing weight because they are the least intrusive. 3,500 calories is equivalent to a pound of fat, hence, you have to expend 3,500 calories more than what you consume to shed one pound. In principle, by lowering your usual daily intake by 500 calories, you can shed one pound per week. However, you usually lose a combination of fat, lean tissue, and water, so the 1 pound you will lose at the end of the week may not be entirely fat. That said, you may need to decrease calories further to continue weight loss. It is not advised to fast for long periods or follow extreme calorie-restrictive diets because this can be counterproductive and dangerous. Many experts suggest that you should not cut back more than 1,000 calories from your usual daily intake. Cutting calories doesn't have to be difficult. Just control your portion sizes and replace calorie-dense food with high fiber, low-calorie, nutrient-dense food.

The American College of Sports Medicine recommends that you spend about 2.5 to 4 hours doing moderate intensity aerobic exercises to maintain weight. If you want to lose a substantial amount of weight, you should do more than 5 hours of exercise each week. It is also recommended to perform muscle strengthening exercises on at least three days of your week.

Keep a journal. Research show that people who maintain a log of what they eat are more successful in their weight loss attempts. Many believe that by keeping a journal helps you stay motivated and at the same time discourage you from binge eating or skipping on scheduled exercise sessions.

Try losing weight through hypnosis. Hypnotherapy has been used for years to aid in correcting behaviors that are not healthy or destructive. There are products that train you how to perform hypnosis on yourself. However, in most cases, losing weight through hypnosis is most effective when done under professional guidance.
