Tips For Finding The Best Tasting Protein Bars

By Goldie Booker

It is not easy to wade through all the choices to find the best tasting protein bars. They come in so many varieties that it can be confusing. Choices range from soft to crunchy-nutty, to those covered or dipped into chocolate. Some take the place of a meal, others are used as snacks, especially when doing heavy exercise. One can see why it is so hard to choose the one for you, based on taste and use.

There are two nutrients that most people mainly focus on. They are proteins and carbs. The protein is what helps keep hunger at bay. The carbs are what gives quick energy. They will raise blood sugar quickly.

Different carbs affect differently, and different people react to them differently. Honey, sugar, and syrups will give a rapid rise. If you are engaging in an exertion, that is good. But, if you have diabetes, or are trying to control hunger and lose some weight, they are a negative.

There is a great difference in the taste of these bars, and what they are used for. Some replace whole meals. These usually have whey as a base. They are as nutritionally sound as a meal, and will keep a person satisfied for a long time.

The snack ones are designed to replace a mid-meal snack. They will have less calories and nutrition. They may also have a sweeter taste, seeming to be more like candy. They are smaller as well. They are designed to supplement when a person is doing some strenuous exercise. For every 90 exercised, it is estimated that a body needs 40 grams of carbs, which the snack size is designed to supply.

It is pretty much personal taste as to what constitutes the best tasting protein bars. There are those who swear by peanut butter as an ingredient. Some love the chocolate covering that some are dipped in. Still other persons like the crunch of a peanut/oatmeal one. Take your pick and enjoy.
