How to Get the Best Results From Running to Lose Weight

By Deon Hawk

Running is a very simple way to start shedding the extra pounds; however, you have to do it the right way. Exercising by running is something that you can do without a special weight room or going to a class at the local gym. Calories will burn, and your fitness level will improve, by following this type of simple regimen. These are some of the reasons why running can be such a beneficial way to lose weight. When it comes to running, there are few better ways to shed the pounds.

Sometimes your local college will have a track that you can use, and immediately it is actually lit for night runs. Treadmills and biking workouts such as using the schwinn recumbent exercise bikes are another alternative, especially if you have a membership to the local gym. Wherever you choose to begin your running, stick with it. Your workout needs to be regulated, so that you can become accustomed to the run when you are initially getting in shape. For instance, if you run on a treadmill, stick with that and don't change to run in the park later in the week. The reason you don't want to do this is that it may cause injuries that will keep you from running if they are sustained.

When you start to run, and you feel that you need a break, by all means stop before something bad happens. When you're running, and you don't want to stop, you should walk for a little while until you feel well enough to run again. Some people actually believe that it is cheating if you slow down while running, though it is practically beneficial to walk until you are in better shape. Walking is totally acceptable, unless of course you are training for the Olympics. If your goal is fitness and weight loss, there's nothing wrong with alternating between running and walking. By simply moving gradually toward your goal of running consistently the entire time, you will eventually not walk anymore.

When running you must ensure your energy levels are sustained, and you need to keep hydrated. Every now and then you should take sips from your water bottle, which you should bring when you go running. Make sure you consume enough water after going for a run. Sports drinks can be good as well, but it's best to avoid ones that have lots of added sugar. You should eat a healthy meal that contains complex carbohydrates. A few great examples of this that are whole grains are wheat germ, oat bran and buckwheat. A few types of sports bars can be useful in nourishment for your body without adding useless calories.

Running, to lose weight, is definitely possible as you have read in this article. Only through consistent running, not intermittent exercising, can you lose fat successfully. The best way to run, and actually enjoy it, is to be in the moment. You can have your long term goals in mind as well, but don't be in too much of a hurry, as with running you really want to enjoy the journey as much as the destination.
