Discover More About Eczema Natural Remedies

By Rebekah Alford

Although the medical professionals believe that eczema is not contagious, they do believe it runs in families. An area of skin starts to itch and then an unsightly rash appears. Scratching only makes the itch worse and the skin starts to break up. The face, neck, legs and hands are the areas that are most affected. Eczema natural remedies should help to calm the itching and the appearance of the rash, but are unlikely to effect a permanent cure.

They say that prevention is better than cure and there are a number of life-style changes that can help to prevent flare ups. Eczema can flare up as the result of an allergic reaction to a product you are using or are coming into contact with. If you can remove or change whatever triggers your allergy, you block the chain reaction that causes your eczema to flair-up.

Keeping your skin moist and supple, helps to prevent out-breaks. Get into the habit of taking showers that are a cool to medium heat and avoid immersing yourself and especially your hands in too hot water. Use only the mildest variety of perfume-free soap products and cleansers you can find. Once the skin is thoroughly dry, apply a fragrance free moisturizing lotion. Health stores sell a wide range of natural skin products recommended for sensitive skin.

Broken skin is a breeding ground for infection and scratching an area that is itchy can easily damage the skin. Placing a dressing over the rash can help to keep germs out and acts as a reminder not to scratch. To protect the area while you are sleeping, wear a pair of gloves which should help to prevent any damage.

Extensive sweating can act as a trigger for eczema. Particularly, during flare-ups avoid activities that cause you to sweat. Keep your skin dry and moisturized to help prevent further irritation of the affected area. Controlling the temperature around you can have positive or negative results. Too hot, the skin starts to dry out and crack and the same reaction occurs when exposed to extreme cold.

Try not to wear clothing that is tight and may cause irritation to the skin. If an out-break occurs do not ignore it, use natural products that can be bought over the counter to combat the itch and the rash. Using hydro-cortisone products along with products such as calamine lotion applied frequently when needed, helps to alleviate the symptoms. The menthol and camphor oil combined in the calamine lotion can be effective in eliminating the itch and removing the heat from the rash.

If you are prone to bouts, you should use hypoallergenic soaps and lotions every day. Avoid using soaps and lotions that are supplied in many public washrooms, unless there is a clear statement that they are hypoallergenic products. Always ensure your skin is completely dried after washing, and before you apply moisturizing lotion.

Eczema can be triggered by a stressful event. Successfully combating stress will remove the trigger. Stress does respond positively to a exercise, a healthy and nutritious diet and relaxation. Developing strategies for dealing with stress and using the right eczema natural remedies can help to minimize the effects of your condition.
